Advice For New Traders
- Make a website. The most important thing to know about being a good trader is that marketing is important. Most traders use weebly. It is free, professional, and easy to use. Look at my site and other traders' sites for examples.
On the front page of your website, list the date it was last updated. There is nothing more frustrating than contacting someone for a trade request and finding out that they haven't traded for months! Help break the cycle!
Don't be afraid to ask for a free show when you are just starting out! Many traders are open to helping out new traders.
If you deal with a rude person, ignore it and move on. I personally don't recommend putting a "bad traders list" as I find it childish, but I rather remember not to trade with that person again.
If someone refuses a trade request with you, do not persist. It will not make them want to trade with you any more.
The best traders are ones who are prompt--find a CLEAR, safe, and comfortable way for potential traders to contact you. Also, check whatever source you have people contact with you (email, youtube, etc.) daily.
Be nice and patiant! Otherwise, it gives you a bad rep., which no one wants.
Don't let success get to your head. Many big traders start to feel like they OWN videos--no one does. Only NBC really owns a Wicked video. If the master (recorder of the show) gives specific requirements, it is best to just follow them (though I still find it to make no sense).
Do not feel obligated to listen to the demands of people who don't have the authority to make them. (For example, if you post a clip on youtube from a show and someone other than the master or NBC asks you to take it down, you don't have to.) This has to do with the whole "power" thing. You'd be surprised at how many times I've had to deal with this...
Make connections! Have people you love to trade with that love trading with you! I have a trading partner, and while it isn't necessary, I actually prefer it.
Save all links to a word document! Clearly label the date, the cast, who traded it with you, format (rar, avi, wmv, etc.), the company, and whether it is an AUDIO OR VIDEO! Highlight all links you have downloaded from the document. If you have a trading partner (like I do), I recommend using a google docs account. This way, both people can check the updated links whenever without having to constantly email each other. It is very easy to get unorganized, and when you do, it can make trading a hassle!
Remember what it is like starting out, and help new traders that come a long.
Have fun! Many people take trading too seriously. If it starts feeling like a chore or responsibility, it is becoming too much a part of your life. For me, trading is a fun hobby. (:
